Title: On the Blind Estimation of Chip Time of Time-Hopping Signals Through Minimization of a Multimodal Cost Function |
Source: IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SIGNAL PROCESSING, 59 (2): 842-847 FEB 2011 |
Abstract: In this correspondence, we focus on blind estimation of the chip duration of time-hopping signals by introducing a cost function based on time-of-arrival (ToA) folding over multiple observation sets. An optimization algorithm that takes advantage of the highly oscillatory behavior in the nearby of the global minimum is proposed and a performance bound for the chip time estimate is derived. The pertinence of our approach is shown through numerical results, considering alternative methods like periodogram and separable least squares line search. The proposed technique enables a good tradeoff between statistical accuracy and computational complexity. |

Title: Systemic approach explored in the context of passive target tracking |
Source: IET SIGNAL PROCESSING, 4 (3): 314-323 JUN 2010 |
Abstract: For obvious reasons of cost, discretion and reliability costs, locating and tracking aerial targets under an electromagnetically completely passive paradigm, relying exclusively on illuminators of opportunity, is very appealing not only for military but also for civilian tasks. Such a passive radar system could exploit signals emitted by existing commercial television or radio stations or even satellite signals, such as the ones belonging to the global positioning system. This study considers target locating and tracking using a network of passive receivers and/or non-cooperative illuminators (a multi-static radar configuration) by making use of the Doppler shift only. A concept, the systemic approach, is used to combine and interpret information available from different sensors. Both the formalisation of the problem and the hardware and software implementation are presented. Implementation makes use of multi-component polynomial-phase signal models and genetic algorithms. For increased performance, implementation on field programmable gate array is envisaged. |

Abstract: Recently, there has been an extensive interest in research on the analysis and control of chaotic behavior in nonlinear systems. Various control problems can be defined for such systems, such as targeting the trajectories to a desired point, stabilizing unstable periodic orbits etc. The recurrence plot is a two dimensional representation technique that brings out distance correlations in a time series and make it instantly apparent whether a system is periodic or chaotic. In this paper, the proposed method is applied to control chaos in buck converter. In particular, the resonant parametric perturbation in the perturbing signal is studied. |

Abstract: Recently, there has been an extensive interest in research on the analysis and control of chaotic behavior in nonlinear systems. Various control problems can be defined for such systems, such as targeting the trajectories to a desired point, stabilizing unstable periodic orbits etc. In this paper we present the necessity and possibility to control chaotic dynamic systems. The first part of this paper describes the methods for the identification of Unstable Periodic Orbits (UPO) of a chaotic dynamic system. Some methods of control are applied to stabilize UPO embedded in the dynamics of the system. The chaos control was first advanced by Ott, Grebogi and York (OGY method). Finally, the resonant parametric perturbation method is applied to control chaos in buck converter. In particular, the effect of phase shift in the perturbing signal is studied. |

Abstract: This paper presents a FPGA hardware implementation for the second order low pass sigma-delta (Sigma-Delta) modulator. This digital structure’s design is based on a standard second order Sigma-Delta modulator architecture that is optimized by introducing in feedback the multiplier coefficients. With the resulted model, we can control the transfer function gain for input signal and quantization noise. In addition, we want to increase the signal-noise ratio without increasing the complexity of the hardware implementation. It is shown that, for a linear model, the removal of the quantization noise from the input signal is more efficient by increasing the order of the quantization noise transfer function. It is also presented the coefficients’ computation method, their conversion in fixed point with 1:15 format and their adjustment because that way the result of the binary adders from the digital structures doesn’t exceed the number of bits that the structures is intended to have. At the end is presented the effective implementation on a FPGA area of the second order low pass Sigma-Delta modulator. |

Title: On exact Kalman filtering of polynomial systems |
Source: IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS I-REGULAR PAPERS, 53 (6): 1329-1340 JUN 2006 |
Abstract: A closed-form state estimator for some polynomial nonlinear systems is derived in this paper. Exploiting full Taylor series expansion we first give exact matrix expressions to compute mean and covariance of any random variable distribution that has been transformed through a polynomial function. An original discrete-time Kalman filtering implementation relying on this exact polynomial transformation is proposed. The important problem of chaotic synchronization of Chebyshev maps is then considered to illustrate the significance of these results. Mean square error between synchronized signals and consistency criteria are chosen as performance measures under various signal-to-noise ratios. Comparisons to the popular extended Kalman filter and to the recent unscented Kalman filter are also conducted to show the pertinence of our filtering formulation. |

Abstract: An original application of Genetics Algorithms in the on layout optimization of the microwave filters is presented. Based on a resonant coupling irises topology, a Ka-band diplexor filter on silicon membrane substrate is tuned in order to improve its performances. The optimization process uses the numerical results given by Sonnet software and the overall process is piloted by a genetic algorithm. A very good acknowledgment between numerical (optimized) and experimental results was obtained. |

Abstract: The aim of the present paper is to increase the reliability of a Kalman filter-based DS-SS receiver by considering in the state space models the multipath coefficients and associated delays. The objective being to operate at very low SNRs in shallow water (to achieve furtive transmissions) and with the need of a limited computationnal cost, the implementation relies on the Unscented Kalman Filter, which is known to be more robust than the popular Extended Kalman Filter. The proposed receiver schemes are discussed and compared using experimental data’s. |

Abstract: This paper is devoted to receiver design in a Chaotic Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum (CD3S) digital communication system. The demodulation is achieved through chaos synchronization in an efficient manner thanks to dual Unscented Kalman Filtering. The problem of carrier phase recovery, frequently neglected in chaos-based communication systems, is addressed either through Costas loop prior to demodulation or by dual estimation of the code, symbol and phase in baseband. The input signal power fluctuations, which often causes large errors in synchronizing chaotic waveforms, is also taken into account. Numerical simulations are provided to show the significance of the proposed receiver for both Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel and a no stationary channel. |

Title: The influence of the piezoelectric properties on the monolithic filter design |
Source: ANNALES DE CHIMIE-SCIENCE DES MATERIAUX, 22 (8): 713-716 DEC 1997 |
Abstract: This paper presents an accurate design method for the monolithic filters composed from capacitive coupled two-pole resonators structures, with quartz and langasite as crystal substrates. Because the coupling coefficient of langasite is much larger than that of quartz the design method in the case of langasite includes specific adjustments. The main relations for the electrical and geometrical design of the monolithic filter are presented. |

From twenty years we promote the idea that engineering’s systems (and not only!) are nonlinear ones and usually can have chaotically behaviors and their associated processes need special studies’ methods. In this paper we present two directions from our research: cryptography based on chaos and a new method to analyze signals from nonlinear dynamical systems. View more
